Anyone heading into Disneyland Park or Disney California Adventure right now will notice the security screening isn’t where it used to be.
The new checkpoint location
As part of Disneyland Resort’s multi-year expansion, four ticket booths on the eastern side of the Esplanade are being demolished. The security checkpoint that used to sit near those booths has temporarily moved into that same former ticket booth area on the east side.
This is a direct result of active demolition work, not a permanent redesign — though Disney hasn’t said when or whether it will move again before the project wraps.
What this means for your entry routine
- Expect to walk through temporary walled pathways set up across the Esplanade to guide guests around the construction zone toward the checkpoint and entrances.
- Accessibility Services has also moved during this phase — it’s now on the opposite, west side of the Esplanade at Ticket Booth 6, separate from the relocated security checkpoint.
- Give yourself a few extra minutes for entry, since the walking route through the Esplanade is longer and less direct than usual while these pathways are in place.
Looking ahead
This isn’t the last change coming to this area. Disney is building a new Eastern Gateway complex — including an 8-story parking garage, a transportation drop-off area, its own security checkpoint, and a bridge over Harbor Boulevard — meant to eventually replace the transportation hub that the future Avatar land will displace. That’s a longer-term project, not something guests will see finished anytime soon.
📅 Because construction phases tend to shift, it’s a good idea to check for the latest checkpoint location right before you arrive.
