A Democratic resolution meant to limit President Trump’s war authority in Iran was defeated in the Senate on Thursday — but it didn’t fail unanimously along party lines.

Four Republican senators voted with Democrats in favor of the resolution:

- Lisa Murkowski
- Rand Paul

Why it still failed
Even with four Republican votes, the resolution lacked a veto-proof majority in the Senate, and it would have faced a presidential veto regardless. So the four crossover votes weren’t enough to change the outcome.
