What is visible in NASA’s Star Trails long-duration image?
NASA describes Star Trails as a long-duration image. The visible elements NASA identifies are both above Earth and below.
What is visible
In the NASA Star Trails image, star trails are visible above Earth.
NASA also identifies lights below:
- Blue lights from fishing boats
- Yellow lights from Indonesian cities
That means the image is not only about the sky. It also includes visible human activity on Earth below.
What the description does not confirm
The provided context does not include a date, location details beyond Indonesian cities, or technical camera information. For those details, readers should check NASA’s official page directly.
What is the difference between the blue lights and yellow lights described by NASA?
NASA separates the lights in the image by color and source. The blue lights and yellow lights are not described as the same thing.
Blue lights vs. yellow lights
| Color in the image | What NASA says it shows |
|---|---|
| Blue lights | Fishing boats |
| Yellow lights | Indonesian cities |
So if you are trying to read the image visually, the color is the key clue NASA gives: blue marks fishing boats, while yellow marks city lights in Indonesia.
Keep the distinction narrow
The available NASA context does not explain the cause of the colors or identify individual places. It only confirms what each color represents in the image description.
