![[Remy Ma “Rem The Pen”]: FederalRegister.gov Access Notices: What Human Users and Developers Should Do](https://trendingissue.blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/pexels-60504-1.jpg)
What should I do if FederalRegister.gov blocks my access while I am trying to view this issue?
If FederalRegister.gov shows an access notice while you are trying to view the issue, the confirmed next step is simple: prove you are a human user through the CAPTCHA and then request access.
What to do first
Complete the CAPTCHA shown on the access notice. After that, follow the page’s prompt to request access.
The notice is meant for traffic that looks automated, so a normal reader should not try to work around it with repeated refreshes or other tools. Use the access path the site provides.
If the problem appears to involve your IP address
The notice says IP access problems can be sent through the site’s Site Help button.
One important caution: do not put confidential or personal information into that help form. Keep the message limited to the access problem itself.
If you are not browsing manually
If you are using a script, bot, crawler, or other automated tool, the notice points programmatic users to the developer API documentation for FederalRegister.gov and eCFR.gov. That is the confirmed route mentioned in the notice.
Because site access notices can change, check the current Federal Register page for the latest instructions before taking further steps.
How can programmatic users access FederalRegister.gov or eCFR.gov without triggering automated-request restrictions?
Programmatic users should not treat the access notice as a normal browsing problem. The notice specifically directs automated or programmatic access to the developer API documentation for FederalRegister.gov and eCFR.gov.
Use the API route instead of automated page requests
The confirmed guidance is to use the developer API documentation for the site you need:
- FederalRegister.gov for Federal Register data
- eCFR.gov for eCFR data
The notice does not provide setup steps, rate limits, authentication details, or example code in the provided context. It only confirms that programmatic users are being pointed toward the official API documentation.
Why this matters
The notice says automated-looking requests to FederalRegister.gov and eCFR.gov may be restricted. If your tool is requesting pages in a way that looks automated, access may be limited.
Using the official API path is the practical way to avoid treating a data task like ordinary web browsing.
What is not confirmed here
The notice does not confirm which request patterns trigger restrictions, how long a restriction lasts, or whether every programmatic user needs a specific credential. For those details, use the official developer documentation linked from the site notice and re-check the current page if the policy changes.
