What did Kirk Herbstreit say about Jeremiah Smith before College GameDay?
Kirk Herbstreit’s comments about Jeremiah Smith focused on how unusual Smith looks as a receiver, especially for his size.
What Herbstreit said
Herbstreit said Smith reminded him of Julio Jones and Terrell Owens. The comparison was about Smith’s physical profile and movement, not a direct claim that he had already matched their careers.
The source listed Smith at 6-foot-4 and 224 pounds. Herbstreit pointed to that size along with how smoothly Smith moves as the reason those NFL names came to mind.
Why the comparison stood out
The comment came before College GameDay, with Smith already producing at a high level for Ohio State.
Entering the Iowa matchup, Smith led the FBS with 617 receiving yards and had seven touchdowns. The context also included his game against Illinois, when he had 12 catches for 217 yards and four touchdowns in Ohio State’s 42-19 win.
What to take from it
The practical takeaway is simple: Herbstreit was emphasizing Smith’s rare mix of size, movement, and production. The comparison to Julio Jones and Terrell Owens was a way to describe the type of physical skill set Smith showed, based on the reporting available.
For the latest game status or updated statistics, check current Ohio State or official college football listings before relying on pre-Iowa numbers.
