![[chuck schumer]: Verizon Copper Landline Replacement: Service, Boxes, and Customer Letters](https://trendingissue.blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/pexels-16317694.jpg)
Will Verizon customers lose home phone service when copper landlines are replaced?
Verizon says customers will not lose home phone service when copper landline infrastructure is replaced.
The direct answer
According to Verizon spokesperson Lauren Peterson, customers, including seniors who are used to home phones, would not lose their service.
TribLIVE.com reported that the change is part of Verizon’s move away from older copper phone lines as communications infrastructure is upgraded.
What stays the same for customers
The report said landline customers would receive a box that lets them:
- keep using the same handset
- keep the same phone number
- continue home phone service without relying on the old copper line
That is the practical point for customers worried that the letter means their phone will simply stop working.
Why Verizon is replacing copper lines
Peterson said Verizon and other telecom companies have worked with the Federal Communications Commission on moving away from older copper phone lines.
She described the copper network as difficult to maintain, scarce as a material, and vulnerable to weather.
What to check
The report does not include every installation detail or every customer timeline. If you received a Verizon notice, review the letter carefully and check Verizon’s latest instructions for your own account.
How will Verizon let landline customers keep using the same handset and number?
Verizon’s reported plan is to give landline telephone customers a box that lets their home phone service continue without the old copper line.
How the box is supposed to help
TribLIVE.com reported that customers with landline telephones would receive a box. The purpose of that box is to let customers keep using the same handset and keep the same phone number.
That means the customer-facing goal is continuity: the phone in the home and the phone number should stay familiar, even as the underlying copper infrastructure is replaced.
What the report does not specify
The provided context does not include step-by-step setup instructions, technical requirements, a delivery schedule, or whether a technician visit is needed for every customer.
So readers should avoid guessing from the news report alone. The specific instructions should come from Verizon’s customer letter or a current Verizon account notice.
Why Verizon is making the change
Verizon spokesperson Lauren Peterson said the industry has worked with the Federal Communications Commission on moving away from older copper phone lines. She also said copper lines are difficult to maintain, the material is scarce, and the network is vulnerable to weather.
If you are affected, check the most recent Verizon communication for the exact setup process for your address.
What should seniors or longtime landline users do after receiving a Verizon copper-line replacement letter?
A Verizon copper-line replacement letter may sound worrying if you rely on a home phone. In the TribLIVE.com report, Michele Vanetta of Jeannette received a six-page Verizon letter and feared she might lose service.
What seniors and longtime landline users should check
Start with the main confirmed point: Verizon spokesperson Lauren Peterson said customers, including seniors accustomed to home phones, would not lose their service.
Then check the letter for details about:
- whether you will receive a box
- how your current handset will keep working
- how your same phone number will be maintained
- any account-specific instructions Verizon gives you
What the report confirms
The report says Verizon plans to provide landline telephone customers with a box that lets them continue using the same handset and keep the same number.
It also says Verizon is replacing copper landline infrastructure as part of broader communications upgrades.
What not to assume from the letter alone
The context does not provide a universal installation date, a customer-service number, or a full setup process. If anything in the letter is unclear, use Verizon’s latest account-specific communication before making changes to your phone setup.
