![[carson steele]: Carson Steele and the Eagles’ London Roster Move](https://trendingissue.blog/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/pexels-16287910.jpg)
Why did the Eagles add Carson Steele to the active roster before the London trip?
The Eagles added Carson Steele to the active roster before heading to London because they needed more running back depth.
Philadelphia was dealing with injuries to Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby, and Bigsby went on injured reserve. That left the team needing help in the backfield, which is where Steele fit.
Why Steele was added
The confirmed reason is roster need at running back.
Steele had already been with Philadelphia after joining on a reserve/future deal in January, so he was not a brand-new name to the organization. During the preseason, he also gave the Eagles some useful production as a receiver out of the backfield.
A separate report around the London matchup described Steele as being elevated from the practice squad, while Dameon Pierce was added to the 53-man roster. The shared point is the same: Philadelphia was adjusting its running back group before the London game.
What this means for the Eagles backfield
The move does not confirm exactly how many touches Steele would get. The available reporting only confirms that Philadelphia needed backfield help after the injuries and made roster moves before traveling.
For the latest status, check the Eagles’ official announcement or the team’s game-week roster updates, since active rosters can change quickly.
What did Carson Steele do in the Eagles preseason to earn roster attention?
Carson Steele drew Eagles roster attention in the preseason mainly through his receiving production.
He scored two receiving touchdowns and twice led Philadelphia in receiving yards during preseason play.
The preseason production that stood out
Steele’s confirmed preseason highlights were simple but useful:
- Two receiving touchdowns
- Two games in which he led the Eagles in receiving yards
That matters because running backs who can contribute in the passing game can give a team more flexibility, especially when the roster is dealing with injuries.
Why it mattered later
Philadelphia later needed running back help after injuries to Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby. Bigsby went on injured reserve, and Steele was part of the team’s roster movement before the London trip.
The available context does not say the preseason performance was the only reason for the move. It does show that Steele had already given the Eagles production worth noticing before the backfield injuries became part of the roster picture.
